My Love Story With Australia
16.10.16
Today it's my one year anniversary in Australia. Ever since I was a little girl it was my dream to live, surf and travel in Australia. I always dreamt about a magical place where crystal clear waves never stop lapping against beautiful sandy beaches. A place where the sun shines over the water and sets over the mountains. Where there are birds in the sky, dolphins in the sea and kangaroos on the land.
Two days before my flight a dear friend of mine came to visit me to share some of his experiences from the big Kangaroo continent. After a long chat over a lovely Israeli black coffee, we realised that I was so excited that I hadn't even booked a place to stay for the first night. He booked a place for me in a hostel in Sydney called "Noah's Backpackers". He told me that awesome, magical things happen in Australia and all you need to do is follow your heart and be brave. He gave me a big goodbye hug and went on his way.
He had his own adventures waiting for him.
A year ago to the day, I went on that plan and I made my dream come true.
I packed a bag with everything I have ever known about myself, about life, about love, and started my journey, me myself and I making the dream come true.
After a 24 hour flight, I took my bag and my skateboard and waited in line to leave the airport and to get that beautiful Australian stamp in my passport.
I couldn't wait to go and chase some waves! I met three beautiful people who offered to give me a lift to my hostel in Bondi Beach. Fuck I'm really here, I'm in Australia, I couldn't believe I was so happy!
They dropped me in the hostel but it was two hours before check in time so I dropped my bag, put on my bikini and skated to the beach,
I don't think I was ever so happy in my life...
After laying in the Australian sun for a few hours it was time to go back and check in.
I went in the room, a six bedroom, kind of mouldy with many bags on the floor and a mess everywhere
I LOVE IT!
I felt alive again. My journey has begun, I'm a backpacker again.
I took a shower and I went to explore the city.
I'm not a city girl. Sydney was so big and fast, so many people walking past, traffic lights, cars and a lot of noise. All I wanted to do was to buy a campervan, surf and enjoy nature. I think I'm looking for something else.
I came back to the room, tired, jet-lagged and a little confused. I didn't know what I wanted or where my next destination is.
There he was. Scruffy, with glasses and an accent so thick I couldn't understand a word that came out of his mouth.
"Hey nice to meet you, I'm Rob" he said, "Hey nice to meet you too, I'm Shir"... "Shir? how do you pronounce that?" "Shirrrrr with an R at the end"
"Oh that's cool, are you from Israel?" he asked "Yes" I answered "Oh, I've have been there!" he said, "Ah yeah? That's nice,
anyway I want to go for a beer, do you wanna join?"
He hesitated, "I'll be downstairs in the lobby," I said and left the room...
